Google Chrome.. And they reason why Google will probably be able to write my biography.

So Google released its new browser “Chrome”. I love Google, I’m one of them Google fans.

I won’t be writing about all its new features, technology behind it, etc. For that you just need to Google(”Google” used as a verb here) Chrome. See, thats why I’m a Google(using as a noun here) fan. Read the comic strip, the numerous reviews, blogs. Here is my personal take on it, not really a geeky post.

So I downloaded and installed Chrome within hours of its release. The fact that it took almost 2 hours because of the pathetic GPRS speed didn’t stop me. I love its simple UI. I’m not much of a geek so I can’t comment on the technology part. But I did like the feature where they integrate the search and address box also the fact that thumbnails of your most visited sites are displayed everytime you open a new tab. And I found it much faster than Firefox, probably because of the lack of any add-ons and plugins. The incognito mode(or porn mode) won’t be of much use to me as I am the only user of my comp and complete privacy is guaranteed. Also most of their shortcuts are the same as that of Firefox, good for me I was using Firefox. But I am not comparing Chrome to Firefox, IE(I haven’t even tried IE8), Opera, Safari, et al, coz I don’t think I can do justice(not much of a tech geek you see). But I’ll be using Chrome from now on, the simple UI is reason enough for me to choose Chrome.

What saddened me the most about Chrome was that only a Windows version was released. It’s opensource, but then, why the heck didn’t they release a Linux version. What about Mac users. And here I was, hoping, they will release a Chrome for Symbian too. I’m really dissapointed.

Also Chrome had a controversy about its EULA, which they promised will be resolved. After reading that “controversial” part of the EULA, I did get a little scared. Come to think of it, the amount of data Google will have about me, and what they can do with it, real scary.

Consider this – I use Gmail as my primary e-mail, Gtalk for chat, Blogger for blogging, Picasa to store and manage photos, Google Calender, Orkut(I have been more active on Facebook, but some of my frens are still stuck with Orkut…. So…), these past few days I have started using Google docs more often, use Google Reader for me RSS feeds, and the only search engine I use is Google, upload videos on Youtube. So Google basically knows anything and everything about me!!!!! Scary shit, right?

Anyways if here’s the link if you wanna install Chrome and try it out.

hey thanks…

I’m sure Google will fix all those issues in their final version of Chrome. Chrome is still in beta.

I find it absolutely brilliant! It’s simple, functional and pretty much straight forward. The only thing that makes me uncomfortable is the downloads via chrome. It doesn’t give you the opportunity to select the destination to put the software (skype, msn, etc etc) in.
