For the uninitiated, Proto.in – The Startup Event is a biannual event providing a platform for Startups in India to “create, collaborate and contribute“. It basically provides a startup-ecosystem where a like minded crowd of entrepreneurs, companies, investors, students, proffesionals, et al, comes together to share, discuss ideas so as to encourage the entreprenurial spirit. From the Proto.in website,
Proto.in, Today, is about giving entrepreneurs a platform to express their visions and showcase their imagination, with a working prototype, for the world to see. It’s about increasing partnership, collaboration and mindshare among a distinguished, qualified and well-connected audience. Proto.in provides a unique platform for promising startup talent to communicate their creativity and innovation potential. As a meeting place for the smartest entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and professionals, Proto.in stands true to its mantra “Create, Contribute, Collaborate.”
The 5th Edition of Proto.in will be held on 23rd and 24th of January 2009, at Nimhans Convention Center, Bangalore. The highlight of the event is when 15 promising Startups shortlisted from the nominations will present their idea with a working prototype. This way they get an opportunity to convince the audience and in the process, even secure some funding from VCs and Angel Investors.
This edition of Proto will also see the debut of another interesting event, Pitchcamp. A workshop/guide for Startups on pitching VCs, convincing the media.
Have you ever wondered how to impress an inscrutable Venture Capitalist, convince a doubting journalist or perfect the guaranteed door opener for a partner? Then this workshop is for you.
If you are an entrepreneur, and believe that your startup/product has the potential to make it big. Go ahead and nominate your Startup. Last date of nomination is 15th Dec, 08. To get an idea about some(Internet) of the Startups showcased in previous editions of Proto.in, read this post by Startupdunia.
This time around Proto.in, in an effort to educate and create more awareness about entrepreneurship, will have greater focus toward students.
Do join us if you are the entrepreneurial type.

The spelling for Pitchcamp seems to have a typo, but quite a nice post.
@ Vijay: Thanks for pointing it out. Corrected it.
