Twitter Application for Orkut – Twitkut.

in Google, Orkut, Reviews, Twitter

Ever felt the need to integrate your Twitter updates with Orkut as most of you friends aren’t on Twitter. Ankit Ahuja wanted to do just that.

He writes on his blog:

I update on Twitter a lot. So, I thought how cool will it be if somehow all my Orkut friends can also recieve frequent updates on my tweets as well as be able to read them from Orkut itself. That means they don’t have to be registered on Twitter to follow me and get updates.

What did he do? He went ahead and wrote an application for Orkut called Twitkut using the  Google’s OpenSocial API and Twitter’s Search API

What can Twitkut do:

  • It displays your recent tweets on your Orkut profile page.
  • If any of your Orkut friends are using TwitKut, it shows their tweets too.

One very important feature that is missing in Twitkut is the ability to update Orkut status from Twitter itself and vice versa. Like the Twitter application for Facebook can do. The reason for this is that, Google’s OpenSocial API doesn’t allow it. Another limititation of the Orkut API is that it can update the activity stream only 3 times a day.

Hopefully Google will change this for the better. Until then we have to be satisfied with Twitkut.

If you are on Orkut as well as Twitter, give Twitkut a try.
