Forgot Mozilla Firefox’s master password?

The ‘master password’ feature in Mozilla Firefox helps in keeping the stored password safe. If ‘master password’ is enabled, not all users can see the stored passwords. Without knowing the ‘master password’, no user can sign in using saved password, neither can they store new password.

What if we forget the ‘master password’?

Worry not, there’s a way to reset the ‘master password’. But this move will reset all web and email passwords, form data, personal certificates. So think of this as the last option.

Here’s what you have to do to reset the password. In the address bar, type:

chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul

This will take you to a page, asking for the last time, if you really want to reset the password. Press the ‘reset’ button and enter your new password.
